Is the Success Rate of a Medical Malpractice Attorney a Solid Indicator for You

Is the success rate of a medical malpractice attorney a sunny indicator for what he can do for you and your particular case?

Who do You Choose?

When you are involved in a car accident, medical malpractice, or even a wrongful death matter, you are trying to find an attorney who would be best for your case. Do you go to an attorney who has never done this before? Do you go to one who has twenty-five years of experience? Do you choose a lawyer who has multiple million-dollar verdicts? Who is the best attorney for you?

Experience and Past Successes Count

The mere fact that an attorney has in the past sterling results, impressive successes, does that automatically mean he can do the same thing for you? The answer is definitely not. Secondly, there is no attorney in New York, who can guarantee a particular result. However, let us assume that you have suffered significant injury because of a careless doctor, and you are trying to find the right attorney for your case.

You can go to an attorney who has just graduated out of law school a little while ago, and is about to handle his first medical malpractice case. Alternatively, you could choose an attorney having twenty-five years of experience, with many large verdicts and awesome results. If you are trying to choose between these two, there are pros and cons to each one.

Results are not Guaranteed

Just because an attorney has remarkable results in the past, does it automatically mean that he can do the same thing or something similar for you? The reality is because of his experience, the attorney who has been practicing for 25 years will know what to do, and what not to do. Secondly, having a successful track record is always helpful, especially to an injured victim who is trying to obtain compensation for all the harms and injuries he has suffered.

However, let us turn this around and use an example of a doctor. Suppose you need surgery. Are you going to go to a surgeon who has never done this before or just once or twice before? Alternatively, are you going to go to a surgeon, who has done this for twenty years and knows exactly how to do this procedure? Most people are therefore going to choose the attorney who has long experience and a very successful track record of winning cases but if their fees are high you may want to consider a less experienced attorney who was to prove himself.

Something to Prove

An attorney who has already "made it" may not be as hungry as you are or as much as a young attorney who has something to prove.

Nevertheless, you should always ask an attorney, whether he has ever lost a case at trial. You will find that the best and most successful trial attorneys in New York would have lost cases in their careers. It could be because of various reasons, but you need to ask this question and watch what type of response you receive.

Therefore, the experience and success rate of an attorney will play an important role when you are trying to choose an attorney. However, do not expect an automatic win just because you have chosen a highly successful and experienced lawyer.
