At the same time, the organization found that white women were 39% more likely to survive breast cancer than African-American women. Surgical mistakes can happen, despite picking the best doctor in the best medical facility in town. Though surgeons and doctors have years of training and experience and take a great deal of care to avoid errors, they aren’t infallible. And sometimes they are simply negligent.
